A common question when talking with customers about laser cutting is “what will my gas usage be for a given material?”

Well to answer that you need to take a couple of variable factors into consideration.

These are:

  • Gas Pressure?
  • Nozzle Size?

These can normally be found in the cutting parameters of your machine, and they differ from machine to machine due to factors like the focal length of the lens you are using and the size of the beam entering the focusing lens.

Once you have these you can then you can calculate the flow rate for the processing of a material using the chart below.
